Frequently asked questions

Have questions? We’re here to help

Dexa Scans

Is a Dexa scan safe?

Yes, Dexa scans use very low-dose radiation, much less than a standard chest X-ray. The radiation exposure is considered minimal and safe for most individuals.  It is the equivalent of one day of background radiation, or a 30 minute flight.

How often should I get tested?

For body composition (fat and muscle mass): We recommend a scan every 3 to 6 months. This allows enough time for meaningful changes to occur from your training or nutrition efforts, while still keeping you on track and accountable.

For bone density: Changes occur more slowly, so we recommend testing no more than once every 18 to 24 months, unless advised otherwise by your healthcare provider.

Do I need to prepare for the tests?

Yes, we recommend fasting for 2-3 hours before a DEXA scan and avoiding strenuous exercise 24 hours before a VO2 Max test. Detailed instructions will be provided upon booking.

VO2 Max Tests

Is the VO2 Max Test safe and who is it for?

Yes, the test is supervised and designed to be safe for both athletes and general health-conscious individuals. If you have any medical conditions or concerns, we recommend consulting your healthcare provider beforehand. This test is ideal for anyone looking to optimise fitness, track progress, or get a baseline health assessment.

How do I prepare for the VO2 Max Test?

Avoid eating and consuming caffeine for 2-3 hours before your VO2 Max test. Also avoid strenuous exercise for 12 hours beforehand. Wear comfortable workout gear and appropriate footwear. Remember, you will be running at your maximum effort so dress appropriately. You should be well-rested and hydrated for the most accurate results.
